The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali provide the wisdom you need to build a strong dedicated yoga practice that will help you thrive both spiritually and physically.
This weekly class will teach you how to apply the wisdom of yoga to everyday life. The class is thorough, practical and fun. Shanna Small’s interactive discussion format will make complex subjects accessible for all.
Why study the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali?
Ashtanga means “eight limbs”. These 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga detail the steps needed to find lasting happiness and freedom from suffering through the practice of yoga. These eight limbs, yoga philosophy, tips for building a practice and dealing with drama and ways to overcome obstacles are all outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, along with a good teacher and real life experience, create the trifecta that is the science of Ashtanga Yoga. The Yoga Sutras is one of the textbooks of yoga that can be used to find success in the practice.
Svadyaya, study of the scriptures, is part of the second limb/Niyama of the eight limbs of yoga. On the eight limbed path of Ashtanga yoga, studying scriptures is mandatory. Svadyaya is often translated as “self-study”. This does not mean that you simply study yourself from a psychological standpoint. It means that you take it upon yourself to study.
