Ashtanga: Do You Trust The Process?

I really love the rawness of Kara-Leah Grant’s article on trusting the process. Through reading it, I realized that I do trust the process of Ashtanga but I don’t trust all the people out there teaching it. Finding a teacher that you trust along with the process is really what is difficult. When I first started practicing, it was all about the teacher’s practice, their ability to do poses, and could they progress me through the different sequences of Ashtanga. I soon learned that  a beautiful practice, does not necessarily make a good teacher.

In order for me to trust the teacher, I have to trust their intentions. Are they there just to make money, pack a class, become famous,  or show forth their power? Are they trying to prove how great they are or how great Ashanga is?  Are they looking for groupies and followers? Are they thinkers and innovators  or are they just mindlessly regurgitating what they learned? Do they see me and how my body works with the pose or are they just pushing me to fit into the shape that they learned? Do they have my emotional and physical health in mind or are their ulterior motives? Are they teaching me yoga or are they teaching me poses? Do they have compassion and a good heart?

For me to be comfortable with a teacher, not only do they have to be knowledgable and dedicated to the practice of Ashtanga, they have to also be good human beings in general.

I would paste Kara’s article but her website has some type of blocker. Check it out here.
