Drop The Story: Why Did Sharath Change Mysore Policy?

So this was recently added to the KPJAYI website

Students who are applying for Sharath’s class must have studied at least 2 months with any of our Certified/Authorized teachers( mentioned in our teachers list) before coming to study with Sharath in Mysore Shala.

After seeing it, I did a little perusing on popular Ashtanga boards and blogs because I already knew what was going to happen. Story time for Ashtangis. I even tried to come up with one myself before the silent voice within said, drop it. Sure enough, people were already ready to riot based on stories.

Story time is why we have yoga. Because we make up a story of who we are and about life, live by it, and we don’t even know if it is true. Yoga is here to rid us of this trend. The work by Byron Katie really helps me to give up the story. Byron Katie proposes that we ask ourselves 4 questions when dealing with life events.

So, lets try this with Sharath’s announcement. Before you start passing your story around, take whatever thought that came in your head and ask yourself the 4 questions above, especially the first two.

Really, right now, no one knows why he changed it and we do the Asthanga world no favors when we pass around stories that are unverifiable.  If someone has heard why direct from Sharath’s mouth, I would be interested in hearing it. Send me an e-mail.
