Yoga Sutras For Every Day Life: Now You Are Ready For Yoga

Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

1:1 Now, instruction on yoga

I have seen this translated as, Yoga is now, and this may indeed be right but from other translations I have seen, this is not likely.  The “now” that is being used is more like, “now then”. This “now” is more like, we have done everything else, now we can start. This is the translation that rings true to my heart because it infers that, before this moment, the seeker has tried other things or needed to finish other things. They were not ready before this moment. Now, they are ready for yoga.

Modern Day Application

We have to be ready for yoga. We have to be ready to surrender to the teachings and practice fully. What we were doing before, did not bring us the results we wanted. Now, it is time for yoga.

Why Is It Important?

In order to fully reap the blessings of yoga, we have to be fully ready.  If we just dip our toe in the ocean, we will never experience its depths. The surface of the ocean is beautiful but life happens under the water. It is the same for yoga.
